(28th July 2017)

While most of us are winding down after another busy academic year to enjoy the summer holidays, the end of July means something very different for some of our elite senior swimmers.  These guys are busy preparing themselves for the Nationals - firstly the British Nationals and then (confusingly) the English Nationals, both taking place at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.

I'm very pleased to tell you that Sadie swam 2:26.83 in her 200 backstroke heat, finishing in 15th place in the combined age group of 13 & 14 years old girls and also, 5 places above her 20th place where she was ranked before the race.  Sadie is one of only 4 13 yrs old who qualified from the whole country, and now the 3rd fastest 13 year old girl in the 200 backstroke in the whole UK!!!

You can watch Sadie in her 200m Backstroke heat on YouTube (fast forward to 1:49.37, although the camera seems to struggle to pan up to the higher lanes!).

A massive congratulations to Sadie, now we are looking forward seeing her again at the English Nationals next week alongside with Olivia and Max.

Our swimmers were competing this weekend (8th July) at the Regional Open Water Championships in Chichester.

Well done to all involved.  We had swimmers competing in the 3000m and 1500m events and this is how they did:

  • Boys 3000m Event
    • Ross (2nd overall & SILVER Medalist)
  • Girls 3000m Event
    • Zebina (10th overall, 6th in age group)
  • Boys 1500m Event
    • Max (31st overall, 12th in age group)
    • Luke (47th overall, 12th in age group)
  • Girls 1500m
    • Sadie (12th overall, 5th in age group)

Chalfont Otters has a new national champion!

Well done to Julia and Max who took part in the para-swimming national championships in Sunderland on the 24th and 25th June.

Julia won 2 silver medals in the 10-13 year olds (100 Freestyle and 100m Backstroke)

Max went even better: 7 swims, 7 PBs, 6 Silver medals (100m Freestyle, 100m Breaststroke, 200m IM, 100m Backstroke, 100m Fly and 400m Freestyle) and 1 GOLD medal (50m Freestyle)!

You guys are truly amazing and great role models to have in the club.

Well done to Sadie Lucas, Zebina George, Ross and Max McGarvie who took part in the Great London Swim Junior competition on 1st July, which is an open water event in the Victoria Dock near to Excel, London.  Wetsuits are a must!

Ross won the boys half mile race with the time of 9m30s, Max came 3rd with 10m18s.  Sadie won the girls race in 10m40s and Zebina came 2nd with 10m45s.  This is out of a race with 108 swimmers.

They also got to meet Liam Tancock, the current world record holder for the 50m Backstroke.

Congratulations to Izzy, Zoe, Haniya and Helen who competed at the ESSA (English Schools Swimming Association) Primary Schools Nationals on 17th June up at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.

Although they were competing as a school team, they are also all members of our Junior County/Performance squads.  They qualified from the Bucks County's and South East Regional Finals as winners of the Freestyle and Medley relays.  When it came to the national finals they were up against some even stronger opposition.

While they narrowly missed out on medals in the Freestyle relay, coming 8th over all, they did take the bronze medal in the Medley (or Mixed) Relay competition.  Well done girls.
